abcsofadhd:

People without ADHD often say that ADHD post are relatable. Yknow why?Cause it is relatable.

Let’s look at some common ones that us ADHD people post about:

  • Difficulty starting things
  • Feelings of boredom
  • Procrastination
  • Memory problems
  • Fidgeting
  • Difficulty finishing things
  • Relationship problems

Note that NONE of those things are actually ADHD specific and you don’t even need be neurodiverse to relate to most of them. The difference of course is the severity, and the chronic nature.

Now I’ve been told many times by people that they TOTALLLLY know what I’m going through cause they experience it too! However, as I’ve said before, a lot of it is cause of language, (and the fact that we down play it to not make others feel too worried).

To get around this, I’ve started using harsher language. For example, I don’t say I have memory problems anymore, I say that I have severe difficulties remembering things. I talk about how I remember virtually nothing before two years ago. Those people from above never claim to relate when I say that I can’t remember my parent’s birthdays or wedding anniversary :P

And to be honest, I don’t really mind anymore if non ADHD reblog my stuff or comment that they relate. Cause they might experience the same symptoms cause of a different condition. Maybe they have unresolved difficulties. Hell, maybe when they reblog the stuff, someone who actually has ADHD will see it and benefit from it. So, go for it.
